Dares, leaderboards and parties: playing Looping with others

A throw takes two seconds. What keeps people throwing is somebody else's score.

Dare a friend with a link

Under a result, “Dare a friend” makes a link. Your friend opens it, sees who dares them and with what score, and throws. The link points to a throw the server has validated, not to a number typed by hand: nothing in it can be faked.

To take a dare you have to beat its total rotation. With the same rotation, the longer airtime wins, and a perfect tie leaves the dare standing. A link never expires and never changes: beat your record and you get a new link, while the old ones still work.

The page opens in the language of whoever opens it, so you can dare a friend who does not speak yours. Your profile counts the players who came to the game through your links.

Three leaderboards

All three rank by total rotation, then by airtime, then by who did it first. Two throws showing the same number of loops are never really tied: a few more degrees put you ahead. A throw the server finds out of the ordinary is checked by a human before it is ranked.

The feats

The “Feats” page shows the latest records and the hardest dares beaten, each with a button to take it on.

Party mode

Your companion and your streak

Every player gets a companion: an animal drawn at random, which starts as an egg. Every throw that counts feeds it. Ten turns in all and it hatches, a hundred and it is an adult, five hundred and it becomes a legend. It gets bored after two days without a throw and falls asleep after seven. It never dies, and one throw wakes it.

The streak counts the days in a row with at least one throw that counts. One throw a day keeps it going; skip a day and it starts again from one. On the installed app, an evening reminder can warn you when the streak is about to end.
