About GyroArcade
GyroArcade is a small independent studio that makes games you play by moving your phone for real.
The idea
A phone knows precisely how it moves: it carries the same kind of motion sensors as a drone. Most games only use them to tilt a marble. We wanted games where the move itself is the game, and where the phone is the referee.
Looping is the first one: throw it, spin it, catch it, and the turns are counted to the degree.
What we hold to
- Measured, not guessed. A score is computed by the server from the raw readings of a real throw, with the same rules for everyone. When the sensor cannot tell, the game counts less rather than more.
- Nothing to install. The games are web pages: a link is enough to play, and to dare somebody.
- As little data as possible. No name and no e-mail are needed to play; no location, no microphone, no camera.
- Twenty languages. A dare opens in the language of the phone that receives it.
- Said plainly. Throwing a phone is risky: the game says so before the first throw, and tells you how to make the risk small.
How it is paid for
The games are free. They are paid for by advertising, shown between two throws and never during one, and by sponsored slots that are labelled as such. No ad is shown before your first throw.
What comes next
Looping is the first game. Others built on the same sensors are being tested; they will appear on the home page when they are ready.
